Residents of Houston have become one of the few cities in the US to receive 4G coverage from Sprint this month. The network is being tested and by all accounts is achieving high speeds and good connectivity.
Other cities in the first stage of the Sprint 4G rollout include Atlanta, Dallas, San Antonio, Kansas City and Waco - as well as Houston, of course. Houston has been lucky enough to be a test city for other similar rollouts in recent times. Verizon chose the city to rollout their LTE network recently and for those who signed up early, the offered speeds were impressive.
Sprint is one of the last carriers in the US who still offer unlimited data plans and when they say unlimited they actually mean it. This means that the true usefulness of a 4G network can be fully explored. Users will be able to take advantage of faster downloads of video, music and movies on their mobiles at lightening fast speeds. It is expected however, that with the increased popularity of 4G, Sprint may not be able to continue offering their unlimited plans, so those wanting to take advantage are encourage to do so early.
It is only now, that Sprint users are able to use 4G with the start of the Sprint 4G rollout. However, 4G capable phones have been available from the carrier for some time. The full rollout to other US cities is expected to continue through out the year.
In the downtown Houston area, speeds which are faster than expected have been recorded. Sprint have said that users should expect between 2 and 3Mbs, but those who are using the network before it becomes popular are likely to achieve much better provided they have a phone with the correct capabilities.
