Fiber Optic and Wireless Developments in Milwaukee:
Milwaukee residents could lose transmission of one of their television stations unless a dispute between Time Warner Cable and Hearst Broadcasting is sorted out. The two broadcasters were discussing the terms of their retransmissions fees and unless they come to a favorable outcome, the WISN-TV station in the city could be switched off.

Originally the two broadcasters had come up with a deadline of June 30 to decide the fate of the station, but the arguments over the fees have continued well past that date. Subscribers were offered a reprieve over the July 4th weekend and the broadcasters were given a few extra days to come to an agreement.

It seems that both broadcasters are not willing to move in either direction, with Hearst asking for retransmission fees which Time Warner Cable are unhappy about. Time Warner cable have said that they are making tougher negotiations in an effort to save money for their subscribers. They point out that some programmers are asking for fees increases of more than 300% and they do not find this acceptable.

Time Warner Cable pointed out that in most cases an agreement is reached before the transmissions have to go off air. However this did not happen in Texas where one TV station could not transmit for five months due to ongoing wrangles with the broadcaster. Residents were issued with antennas so they could receive the analogue signal.

Both Hearst Broadcasting and Time Warner Cable have seen themselves in similar dispute recently. Hearst had a similar problem with DirecTV in 2010.
